Trust & safety
Buying a vehicle carefully
We show information that helps you judge a listing, but we cannot check every seller, vehicle or message. Use the steps below on every purchase.
Never send money before verifying the vehicle and seller.
Verify the seller
Check the seller verification status on the listing. Verified means our team marked the seller as verified. It is not a guarantee about any vehicle or deal. Look at when the seller registered and when the listing was created, and be careful with brand-new accounts.
Verify the vehicle
Ask for the VIN and the paperwork, and check them against the vehicle. Inspect the vehicle in person, or have an independent mechanic do it, before you pay anything. For repossessed vehicles, ask about the lender, any outstanding finance and the condition of the title.
Keep payment safe
Do not send a deposit, wire transfer, gift cards or cryptocurrency to someone you have not met and whose vehicle you have not seen. Be wary of pressure to pay quickly, prices far below the market, or requests to move the conversation off this site.
Meet sensibly
Meet in a public place or at the seller's registered premises, and bring someone with you. Do not hand over payment until the paperwork is checked and the vehicle is in front of you.
What every listing shows
- Whether the seller is verified, or not verified.
- The date the listing was created.
- The date the seller registered.
- A button to report the listing.
Report a problem
If a listing looks like a scam, has wrong information, is already sold, is a duplicate or has inappropriate content, use the “Report this listing” button on the listing. Our team reviews reports and may remove listings or suspend accounts that break the rules. If you have already lost money, contact your bank and your local police.
